One-on-one counseling services are offered to help students address concerns in a number of areas. These areas can include, but are not limited to, depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, sexual assault, disordered eating, interpersonal relationship concerns, substance abuse, and academic concerns.
All currently enrolled Michigan Tech students are eligible to seek services through Counseling Services. As resources permit, additional services and/or referrals may be provided.
Couples counseling services are available to students and their partners. Unlike individual counseling, only one person in the relationship needs to be enrolled to receive these services. Couples counseling is designed to assist couples with their relationship problems. It can be used to gain insight into the problems in the relationship, to learn new and more effective ways of communication, and to learn how to solve problems. Couples counseling will give you the opportunity to examine and improve your relationship with your partner in a safe environment.
Group counseling is provided to students on an as needed basis. Participants in groups benefit from mutual support and learning that occurs from interactions with others with similar concerns. We have offered a variety of groups in the past on body image and disordered eating, anxiety, transgender issues, and social skills. The types of groups offered each semester may change, so contact us directly to inquire further. Group counseling is usually held in the relaxation room, which is located in Counseling Services.
