College Transition
The Michigan Tech experience is unique for each student, as well as for each parent, guardian, or family member. Although students transition through college differently, there are trends that characterize the experience. As students graduate from high school and prepare for college, they may experience a wide array of emotions, from elation and enthusiasm to anxiety and fear. Throughout their college career, students may experience stress, get overwhelmed, be confronted with situations that challenge their values and beliefs, and make decisions about their education and career path that will impact their future.
College provides the opportunity for students to explore and develop their own identities, as well as to gain independence through managing their finances, daily routines, relationships, and education.
Transitioning to a new environment means your student may need to make some lifestyle changes. Michigan Tech is located in a rural area. With this comes many benefits, including a close-knit community, unique local businesses, and beautiful natural resources; however, depending upon where your family is from, your student may need to adjust to living in a smaller, or perhaps larger, community.
