Commencement

The final step in your student’s college experience will be their graduation. Michigan Tech celebrates commencement twice per year, at the conclusion of the fall and spring semesters. During their next-to-last semester, your student will need to complete the graduation application, order their cap and gown, and ensure that they have completed all necessary degree requirements.

We encourage family members planning to attend commencement to make arrangements well in advance. Each student receives a set number of tickets for their guests. The commencement website provides information about the speaker, a listing of the degree candidates, and a seating chart that allows you to easily locate your student’s seat. In general, the ceremony lasts about three hours, as each student walks across the stage to be recognized.

The evening prior to commencement, the University president hosts a Graduates’ Reception.  After the ceremony, Dining Services hosts the annual Commencement Brunch. Opportunities for taking photos are available following the ceremony in designated locations. In addition, a professional photograph of each graduate is taken onstage. Diplomas are mailed to all graduates sixty to ninety days after graduation.
