Welcome to Michigan Technological University!
Now that your student is part of the Michigan Tech family, we would also like to welcome you, their family, to our community. Parents, guardians, and family members play an important role in the success of their student during the college experience.
College is a transitional time for young adults. From the first week at orientation to the walk across the commencement stage, we know having the support of parents, guardians, grandparents, siblings, other family members, and friends will help students progress through this time in their lives. The Parent and Family Handbook is a resource intended to help you guide your student through their years at Tech.
This handbook provides a comprehensive overview of common student experiences, parent and family FAQs, and the services and resources available to Michigan Tech students and their families. As a parent or a family member, your student will often approach you first with their questions and concerns; being an informed and engaged partner in their experience allows you to suggest strategies for navigating through challenging times. Directing your student to a particular office or service is a great first step in encouraging their independence and sense of self-responsibility.
This online handbook is provided by COMPASS – the Center for Orientation, Mentoring, Parents, and Academic Student Success. If you have any questions about the information in this handbook, please contact COMPASS by calling 906-487-3558 or email parents@mtu.edu.
