Biography

Susan Amato-Henderson received her Ph.D. in experimental psychology from the University of North Dakota in 1996. She is an associate professor in the Department of Cognitive and Learning Sciences and Psychology Program Director at Michigan Technological University. She has spent much of her time at Michigan Tech building and directing a major and minor in psychology. Dr. Amato serves as a mentor to students through her role as advisor for psychology majors and minors, and serves as faculty advisor for Michigan Tech's Association of Psychology Students (APS) and chapter of Psi Chi. Her recent research, funded by over $500,000 in NSF funds, has a broad focus but is tied by assessment of educational outcomes. More specifically, Dr. Amato examines personal attitudes and characteristics that serve to motivate education choices and behaviors. Dr. Amato has received numerous awards and recognition for her teaching and service in the field of Psychology, having most recently completed a term as President of the Board of Directors for Psi Chi, the international honor society in psychology.
