Mr. Steven Williams completed his baccalaureate and master's degree in civil engineering from Michigan Tech in 1973. He is currently a Principal with Williams & Works, Inc., a professional engineering firm headquartered in Grand Rapids. After completing his graduate degree, Mr. Williams was employed by Howard Needles Tammen and Bergendoff, an international consulting engineering firm, in its Milwaukee office. While there, he invented a unique device for measuring flow in gravity sewers.

In 1977 he returned to Grand Rapids to join the firm of Williams & Works, founded by his great grandfather and incorporated in 1924. In 1980, he managed a project for the City of Detroit that saved the City nearly $30 million and won the highest national award for engineering consulting. Summit Environmental purchased Williams & Works in 1989 and in 1994 Earth Tech purchased Summit. In 1995, he left Earth Tech as Director of Water/Wastewater Programs to re-form Williams & Works with six other senior staff members of Earth Tech. He was Managing Principal of Williams & Works through 1999.

Mr. Williams is a registered Professional Engineer in Michigan, North Carolina, Wisconsin (non active) and Minnesota (non active) and is a member of numerous professional and technical organizations. Steve served on the Michigan Tech Civil and Environmental Engineering Professional Advisory Committee (CEEPAC) for several years and is currently an emeritus member. While at Michigan Tech, he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi social fraternity and was the student government representative to the City of Houghton Chamber of Commerce.

Steve is the son of Theodore (T.C.) and Dora Williams and is originally from Grand Rapids. He and his wife, Linda, who is a 1973 Bachelor of Arts graduate of Michigan Tech, have been active in their support of Michigan Tech and the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. Their daughter, Perry, is currently enrolled in Biological Sciences and their son, Alex, will be enrolling in Civil Engineering at Michigan Tech this coming fall semester.
