Linda D. Phillips earned a baccalaureate degree in civil engineering with honor in 1977 and a master's degree in civil engineering in 1984, both from Michigan Tech. While at MTU, she participated in ASCE student chapter, Chi Epsilon, Society of Women Engineers, and was counselor for the Women in Engineering program.

After earning her BS, Linda joined Black & Veatch of Kansas City, Missouri as an estimator. In 1978 she accepted a position with American Natural Resources of Detroit, Michigan as a Construction Engineer and Project Manager. Upon earning her MSCE in construction management she accepted a position with Planmark Architecture and Engineering, a division of SUPERVALU, Inc. She was appointed Vice President in 1991 and Director of Project Management in 1995.

In 1997 she took a leave of absence from SUPERVALU to be Visiting Assistant Professor in the Building Construction Department, College of Architecture and Urban Studies at Virginia Tech. She served on the University of Minnesota Construction Management advisory board to develop the new CM degree and also taught in the program. Linda is presently lecturer at MTU in the CEE department and received their 1998-9 Howard Hill Teaching Award.

Linda has served on national committees for the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) as well as authored and presented various papers. She was recognized as the Minnesota Project Manager of the Year in 1988. She is a charter member of the Michigan Tech President's Council of Alumnae, established in 1996 and was inducted into the Civil and Environmental Engineering Academy in 1997.

Linda is a fiber artist and outdoor enthusiast. She has volunteered on several construction projects in the Caribbean and South America. Linda has been an active participant in Michigan Tech's Women/Minorities in Engineering programs for over 15 years. She is also involved with the MTU Summer Youth Programs and co-developed two new Summer Institute programs in 1999.
