James Emerson, originally from Omro, Wisconsin, completed his baccalaureate degree in civil engineering 1960. Mr. Emerson is President of B & E Engineers of Arcadia, California. Following graduation he accepted an engineering position with the County of Los Angeles. In his thirteen years with L.A. County, he worked on development plans of coastal facilities, mountain road location studies, and supervised the land development division which reviewed over 20,000 housing plans/year.

In 1976 he co-founded Bechtol and Emerson, a civil engineering, land planning, and surveying firm in Los Angeles that has now served Southern California for over thirty years. In 1983 the company name was changed to B & E Engineers, and shortly after Mr. Emerson assumed the role of Principal, President, and Chairman of the Board, until selling the company in 2003 to NJS Consultants, LTD.

Mr. Emerson is active in the Civil Engineers and Land Surveyors of California; serving as a member of the State Board of Directors for 6 years, the Board of Directors – L.A. Chapter for 4 years, and currently as President of the L.A. Chapter. He is also a Lifetime Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Jim and his wife, Carol, reside in La Canada, California. They have two adult children, Greg of Reno, Nevada and Karen of La Crescenta, California.
