The School of Business and Economics, in partnership with Michigan Tech's Department of Cognitive and Learning Sciences, offers programs leading to State of Michigan certification for high school economics teachers. Students can complete major certification requirements while pursuing their BS in Economics, or complete course work for certification after earning their BSE.
Economics Education Certification – Major
This program will prepare students for certification as a secondary school economics teachers in the State of Michigan. Students will complete requirements similar to those of the BS in Economics (SS2100, SS2500 and SS2600 substitute for some economics electives and EC3100 and EC3300 are required) and simultaneously complete additional courses in education and in a teaching minor to qualify for certification. Students should plan an additional semester or two of study beyond the completion of a bachelor's degree. Contact us for more information about this program.

The economics minor is available to students seeking major certification in another Michigan Tech secondary education program. Similar to the Economics Education Major Certification, this program will prepare students for certification as an economics teacher in the state of Michigan.
