Michigan Tech graduate business students can specialize in entrepreneurship, finance, and operations management. Students can also develop their own specialization with the help of the faculty in the School of Business and Economics. Michigan Tech's business program offers a Master of Science in Business Administration, reflecting the University's scientific focus.
The MTU specialization in entrepreneurship focuses upon the development of businesses which have a technological flavor. Entrepreneurship involves creativity in identifying and responding to opportunities, the courage to take calculated risks, and the tenacity to carry out a business plan. When combined with the MSBA core courses, the entrepreneurship specialization equips the graduate student with the tools and techniques to identify opportunities to develop or improve products or services, to develop a creative response to those opportunities, to prepare a responsible business plan to start a new venture, and to manage that venture for growth and development. This specialization has value regardless of the direction a student’s career takes following program completion because its focus on integration of all of the business functions over the entire lifecycle of an organization is relevant to any pursuit.
The finance concentration is designed for students interested in pursuing careers in investments and security analysis, corporate finance, or management of financial institutions. Students will develop skills in financial analysis and how value is created for the business enterprise.
Effectively managing operations enables companies to gain a competitive advantage by creating cost leadership, exceptional quality, flexible response to customer needs, and on-time delivery of products and services to market. There are unlimited career opportunities in almost all industries for operations management. This specialization will focus on the rapid changes in the field of manufacturing and service operations management, including supply chain management, lean manufacturing, and other cutting edge applications.
Grad students can take advantage of the university's reasonable size and scientific and technological strengths, to earn a distinctive master's degree. If you've decided that graduate school in business is for you, Michigan Tech will help as you create your future.
