Michigan Tech Residency Experience
Residencies are an exciting opportunity for distance learning students to become multidimensional MBA graduates. The Tech MBA Online includes three residencies that are evenly spaced throughout the curriculum—two extended weekends at Michigan Tech and one week-long experience at an international location. Each residency takes place in August, spaced evenly throughout the curriculum—the first summer before classes begin, between your first and second year, and as a capstone once online classes are complete.
Reminder: Most residency costs are included in tuition. Travel to and from the residency is the responsibility of the student.
1st Residency—Eye-Opening Business Simulation
The first Tech MBA Online residency will be an orientation to the program and a comprehensive business simulation experience. During this experience learn how the areas of business interrelate, meet and interact with Michigan Tech faculty and staff, learn about graduate and collegiate resources (advisor, research, Career Center, etc.), and network with other students.
2nd Residency—Energizing Immersion
Similar to the first, this residency at Michigan Tech is designed as a leadership summit to discuss organizational change, challenges, and management on a global scale.
Final Residency—Going Global
To enhance our students' global competency, the third residency is a week-long visit to another country. During this week, students will visit leading companies, meet with company executives and managers, and learn firsthand about business practices around the world. Students will interact closely with managers in these firms to gain a firm understanding how business are developed in another culture and market, and how these firms manage and expand across cultures. Cultural immersion and interaction with international firms will round out our students' MBA experience.
In June 2012, Tech MBA Online students will be traveling to Bangalore, India. They will be working closely with managers in three global technology-based companies with world headquarters in Bangalore. Students will learn directly from these managers and make presentations in these firms on aspects of global business management and development. The educational experience will be second to none.
