Residencies are an exciting opportunity for distance learning students to become a multidimensional MBA graduate. The Tech MBA Online enables you to capitalize on this opportunity, maximizing your benefits from an MBA program.
The Tech MBA Online program includes three required residencies which are evenly spaced throughout the curriculum--two at Michigan Tech and one at an international location. Your first residency will occur in August before your first Fall term. Your second residency will take place the following August. Your third, international, residency will be a year later in early August, after your final online courses.
First Residency—Eye-Opening Simulation
Your first residency will be an orientation to the program and a comprehensive business simulation. You will develop essential MBA competencies, learn how the business functional areas interrelate, meet and interact with your faculty and staff, learn about graduate and collegiate resources (advisor, research, Career Center, etc.) and network with other students. You will stay in a nearby hotel for the 5 day/4 night, Saturday through Wednesday residency. Class meetings will be held in a comfortable,
seminar-style environment. Two formal lunches will first welcome and then send off you and your MBA cohort. The other three days, a buffet lunch will be served. A continental breakfast will be available every morning, and morning and afternoon refreshments will be served. You will provide your own transportation to, during, and from your residency.
Second Residency—Energizing Immersion
Your second residency will follow a similar format, except the curriculum will be the in-class portion of an MBA course. Your experience is enhanced by online pre-residency assignments, and you will dive into the stimulating, interactive course on your arrival. Self-awareness, networking, collaboration and communication skills will be built at Intellectual Entrepreneurship seminars throughout your stay. Again, you will provide your own transportation to, during, and from your residency.
Final Residency—Going Global
To enhance your global competence, we send you on a sensational third, international residency. Your international residency will consist of a professionally run, week-long visit to another country (probably India). During the week, you will visit one or two organizations each day, meeting with the organization’s executives and learning about their business. You will synthesize the day’s events in an evening, faculty-led seminar. Cultural immersion and interaction with local MBA students will round out the experience. As before, you’ll have online pre-residency assignments. Two experienced MBA faculty and one staff member will accompany you. They will arrive at the international location
the day before you do, to ensure everything is ready. Most meals will be provided. You will take care of your own airfare and other transportation to and from the selected hotel in the target country. During your stay, transportation will be provided for you.
