Back-Up Plan (D-)

(PG-13 for some  profanity, a lot of vulgar humor, some strong sexuality):  Oh, brother!  If the above is stereotypical & repetitive of action flicks past, this one is equally so of the contemporary rom/com trash that wastes the talent of - in this case - a capable actress to dress up an otherwise unpleasant, tasteless & often crude idea for the love game flick with just enough of the right sequences from which to lift snippets to tantalize in previews, but hardly enough to entertain for 104-minutes of agonizingly embarrassing material.

We can thank Kate Angelo for the embarrassingly awkward script and first-time director Alan Poul for the following mess, while poor Jennifer Lopez (she laboring in pre-labor scenes to appear as graphically uncomfortable as possible) and Aussie Alex O'Loughlin (he struggling hard to maintain an American accent) do their miserable best to conceal the god-awful material on hand.

A disabled dog in a wheelie cart manages his bug-eyed best to steal every scene he's in - that's how pitifully bad is the rest of the cast.  Oh - and there's the grinning gynecologist (Robert Klein) who prominently displays his blood-smeared glove after removing it from the heroine's insides - typical of what passes for amusing entertainment throughout this story about a lonely woman who gets pregnant via artificial insemination, only to fall in love with Mr. Right.  Will he still care after he finds out?  We don't.  (Grade: D-)
