Did You Hear About the Morgans (D-)
(PG-13 for some violence, sexual references): The Morgans (Hugh Grant, Sarah Jessica Parker) are a Manhattan couple in an unhappy marital situation. For a change of scenery, they take off for Ray, Wyoming - where one of her relatives lives. They are also escaping a thug for having witnessed a murder. Something like that. It's just as stupid as the rest of the film, as they try to mend their marriage, dodge the killer, get into a rodeo, learn how to milk cows and kiss while wearing 10-gallon hats, get to know the locals, learn how to say, "Howdy," and worse.
There's a parallel here: as with "Old Dogs," normally talented people trying their best, unsuccessfully, to turn a sow's ear into anything but a sow's ear. The script (Marc Lawrence) is horribly stupid, the direction (Mark Lawrence) is impossibly corny, and the stars, especially Grant, seem as embarrassed as did those in "Old Dogs." Nothing works. Even Cary Grant & Katharine Hepburn couldn't bring screwball comedy life to this dead fish. (Grade: D-)
